REGARDLESS to the degree of how much of Papillion was TRUE ..The REALITY is Devils Island and this disgusting place exists just like the Nazi Jewish death camps do ! Its a indictment of how little we as human animals have really advanced in how we treat eachother ! Killing and destroying our habitat is what we know best ! There was no such person as George Parker. Little Bobby Parker was named after his grandpa Robert. Robert Parker is my 2nd g.grandfather-I'm named after him too! He hated being called Bobby as Bobby was a girls name.

Definitely the best documentary of the subject out there! I first visited St. Laurent and Devil's Islands in 1972 and have been back countless times and have read everything I could get on the subject, even a book in Dutch that shows more light on how evil some of the escapees that went over to Suriname were. The last person to be executed by Suriname was an escapee that went to Zanderij, the town near the now international airport. There was a Chinese family who owned a small store. He butchered all of them and stole some goods. Suriname decided that he must die and that he would be the last to be executed in Dutch Guiana (Suriname now). I travelled probably a total of about 12-15 times to Devil's Island from when I was living in Suriname between 1972 and 2002. I even visited Paris and went straight to Alfred Dreyfus' grave in Paris. Hard to believe, but he is buried just a few meters from the genius who made the Statue of Liberty!

My old man was on the USS Doyan in the South Pacific he watched it religiously when it was on tv when I was a kid not sure where it aired but it had to be the mid 70’s I used to hate it but I'm gonna watch it now to remember pop’s!

Fifty five years ago, when I was ten, I found a beat up old book on the bookshelf in my house. The title instantly grabbed my attention. It was "Dry Guillotine" by Rene Belbenoit. I began reading it and have never forgotten it. In fact, I still have it. In fourteen years, the book will be 100 years old. It was so very interesting to have found this documentary on the prison in French Guiana. It brought to life Belbenoit's powerful words. Thank you for posting this.

Caroline Munro is my all time favourite actress. I would crawl a 1000 miles over broken glass just for one night with her.

Now, I am 59 and she is 74 years old. She is stil so pretty and charming. I am from Brazil and living in FORTALEZA. I go to London next september. I will be my 60's on september 15th in London. If I meet her there, it will be the best happy day of all my life. Althought, I think it is almost impossible to happen...😢

this is lousy. Little research, and no research. First problems when he goes to Laramie, goes thru the prison an says , ' if you can't do the time don't do the crime , they haven't researched or they would have mentioned that butch didn't commit the crime he was convincted of, he was framed , lied about by rich ranchers. and the mistakes go on untill at least half way thru when I stop watching. Lousy documentary, poor research

I have no knowledge of how he got to the home he settled in but have to assume it was by the way of the old Inca road along the Andes. Of course he may have travel by boat, having sufficient funds to set himself up in business one assumes he had enough funds to travel by boat, either east down the Amazon or west up the Pacific coast.

I watched the film on a flight to Rekyavik. After we landed, a large group of Americans were waking down the concourse praising the film. I asked them, "And doesn't it show that Australians are the greatest people in the world?". They all responded immediately and enthusiastically, "Yes!!!!!".

This show marked an important part of my life. I was selected to go on a course near Gatwick Airport and on my way back to north Wales, I decided to stay an extra night in London. I rang home to tell my parents, I would not be home on Friday as expected, but Sunday and I went to see "Billy". I reached out for the first time as a grown man, thought for my self and the music of John Barry and the lyrics of Don Black are part of my journey to "grown up". My dad died a couple of months later and I grew up even quicker, but that Friday night phone call with him and my excitement at seeing this show are inexorably linked.
